Speaker Insight: Q&A With Aisha Bowe

Aisha Bowe is one of our inspiring speakers at the upcoming Pearl xChange event in Los Angeles on November 5th. We sat down with her to talk about taking opportunities, tips on staying balanced, and the lesson she would give to her 18 year old self.


PX: Pearl xChange is all about sharing wisdom, experiences and providing a sense of community. What is a powerful message you strive to share through your career and life?

AB: Never allow others to define your your success. This is a new world in which we live today, your chosen career may not even exist yet. I challenge everyone to create the job and life you want regardless of circumstance.

PX. Where do you find your peace and balance?

AB: I ground myself with meditation and exercise on the daily. I love traveling, clothes and food!

PX: How did you stay motivated when you hit a speed bump in your part or faced rejection?

AB: Success lies in the establishment of positive daily habits. I constantly remind myself of how much I’ve overcome, how grateful I am to be where I am and to get where I am.

PX: What is your favorite app our technology source that helps with your productivity?

AB: Wow! There are a ton of apps that make my life run! Headspace for meditation, 1 second everyday to capture memories, instacart for groceries on the run, munchery for healthy meals at work, 5.

PX: What is your morning routine?

AB: 6AM wakeup, meditation, breakfast and workout. Once done, I make a list of what I’d like to accomplish that day. By 8am I am ready to go.

PX: What are your “on the go” health tips when traveling or having a busy week?

AB: When you’re busy it can be hard to stay on point. I pack healthy snacks (Hello Whole Foods), I stay hydrated and I always keep workout clothes. With Class Pass, I now have the option to drop in for a workout in whatever city I find myself.

I love the MyFitnessPal app to keep me honest ( I log everything I eat), I’m absolutely in LOVE with my FitBit Charge 2. It runs my life by tracking everything from sleep to water and exercise and Daily Burn for workouts... 30 minutes is better than nothing at all.

PX: We all have mentors or someone who has influenced us, who do you identify as your strongest source of inspiratio?

AB: My greatest source of inspiration is a collection of trailblazing women. I aspire to have the sophistication of the First Lady Michelle Obama, be as wise as Maya Angelou and as inspirational as Oprah.

PX: When was a pivotal moment that someone advocated for your career?

AB: As a graduate student at Michigan, I was too intimidated to accept a job offer at NASA. The then Director of Engineering, sensing my insecurity invited me for a tour then advocated for me to be on the Small Spacecraft team. The opportunity was life changing.

PX: What is your process when making a crucial business decision?

AB: Intuition is key. I never make a decision that doesn’t “sit” right with me. Nor enter into partnerships without trust.

PX: What is a lesson you wish you could teach your 18 year old self?

PX: Be authentic! Your passion and vision are integral to the success of your venture. Never compromise. Took me years to grow into my own skin.

PX: What influential leader would you have over for dinner and what would you make them?

AB: e First Lady. We’d have my honey dijon encrusted salmon with balsamic glazed brussels sprouts, and honey-sriracha mixed greens. For dessert, I can’t resist inhaling a coconut rum cake.

PX: What is your favorite hidden gem in LA?

AB: Din Tai Fung. Their Dim Sum is a must.
